Meet on the 29th of December for the selection of 34 Dead Fred's for the Celebrities we predict that will pass away in the following year

 

The selected 34 Dead Fred's comprise of 20 General Celebrities, then 5 Australian only Celebrities, followed by 5 Women Celebrities. We also choose an under 40 age Wild Card. Then there are 3 more General Celebrities selected as "Interchange"

 

If the 29th December is not suitable for any of the Dead Fred Society members, they must notify the President by 1st December for a date suitable for all members. In this case, 2 Emergencies can be selected in case a selection dies before 1st Jan. The emergency will take the place of the Dead Celebrity. If none die before 1st Jan, then the emergency selections are discarded and are available for selection in the following years. The interchange rule does not apply in this instance

 

The "Interchange" only comes off the bench into the top 30 playing field when a pre-selected Celebrity has unfortunately passed away between our normal selection dates of 29th to 31st December.

 

During the current season when one of the top 30 has become a Dead Fred, the next "interchange" moves into the top 30. If an "interchange" passes away before moving into the top 30, then that selection is Void

 

The Julius Caesar Wreath will be awarded to the Dead Fred Society member upon selecting their fifth "top 3" selection. This is an on going award to recognise the excellence at awarding the members in choosing Dead Fred's within their top 3 selections.

 

The order of selection is determined by the participants names drawn out of a hat

 

A death is considered to be a Celebrity Death if is reported by the Associated Press as a story by the media on either the Television, Radio or Newspaper or their respective internet webpages

 

The date of death is determined by the time zone of the country where the Celebrity passes away

 

A celebrity chosen has to be stated at least by surname, not just title. You cannot not have just President of Botswana, it must be President Festus Mogae (Botswana)

 

You cannot select any sick or dying family members, old friends, annoying neighbours, work colleagues which you cannot stand, animals, insects,  aliens, clones or cyborgs

 

You cannot poison, electrocute, stab, shoot, scare, kill or be personally involved in anyway to cause a Celebrity's death. You will be banned for life and the Dead Fred Society will be legally obliged to report it to the Law Enforcement Agencies.

 

Executed people such as those on Death Row or Espionage spies facing firing squad cannot be selected.

 

You can pick people who you think will neck themselves but good luck as it is hard enough to pick normal ones as it is! The only exception is yourself whereby in the case of a potential draw, you commit suicide in some bizarre ritual just before new years day so that you end up being reported by the media to be declared a winner post-humously

 

After all selections have been completed, each player chooses two "Legend" picks from their list.  If a "Legend" selection dies, that person gets 3 UDL cans from the other players immediately. From the 2002 season, the top 3 cannot be chosen

 

If your Under 40 Wild Card goes, you get 5 match points and 3 cans of UDL cans instantly.

 

Once you receive your official Dead Fred listing, check all spelling to ensure that you have the correct selected Celebrity. Simular name mistakes after the death will not count. (ie Mytle Woods is not Merv Woods)

 

If there are two or more Celebrities with the same name, you must identify which one was intended (ie Ron Richards - Collingwood legend, Ron Richards - Hawthorn's old time dance band leader)

 

All Dead Fred's have to be claimed by the end of the playing year. If you do pick a Celebrity Death and do not notice it until the following year (ie April), it will not count. A grace period to January 5th will apply to December Celebrity deaths

 

The player with the most Dead Fred's for the year wins. The other players must supply a bottle of Whiskey or equivalent to the winner. The Winner also receives a small Trophy and a Perpetual Trophy which they will retain for the following year which they can proudly display

 

From the 2002 season, a fee will also apply which will cover the trophy costs

 

If two or more people get the same amount of Dead Fred's, there will be a count back to declare the winner which will be the one with the highest winning selections. So selection order is important. The point system will be used where the first selection is worth 30 points, the second 29 points and so on until the 30th which is worth 1 point. The  interchange selections which make it into the top 30 are worth 1 point. It is the democratic way of the Dead Fred Society that if any member wants to uphold a protest, they must contact the President within seven days of an incident. The committee will then decide in favour or against
